Start with an exact-model evidence pack
Before comparing finishes or accessories, request current documents for the exact size and roof configuration. A family-level marketing claim is not enough for a permit or a high-exposure site.

Site exposure changes the shortlist
Open terrain, coastal exposure, elevation, nearby buildings and attachment to the house can change the design case. Do not translate a miles-per-hour number from one test or jurisdiction directly to another site.
Red flags before checkout
- A wind claim with no exact model, configuration or installation assumptions.
- Anchors supplied without a documented foundation requirement.
- Motorized louvers with no high-wind operating or power-failure procedure.
- An attached kit with no ledger, flashing or load-path documentation.
- A seller who cannot identify which document your permit reviewer should use.
Use a two-stage buying gate
- Run the size planner and note exposure, clearances and layout.
- Use the footing and anchor quote checklist.
- Send the brief to shortlisted sellers and require written exact-model answers before paying.
